2nd Year

Can volunteer in post-op area

Can volunteer for sterilization

3rd Year

Can anesthetize patients

Can assist the 4th year dental students in oral surgery and doctors in all treatment areas

Can perform cleanings in hygiene and pedo areas

Can volunteer in post-op area

Can perform simple extractions & fillings

Can assist doctors in all treatment areas

Can volunteer in post-op area

Hygiene Students

Dental Assisting Students

  • Can volunteer in general volunteer areas, especially as a patient escort
  • Can give oral hygiene instructions in patient education
  • Can volunteer in sterilization (Full Hep B vaccination series required)

Anesthesia (In treatment areas)
•3rd and 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

Oral Surgery
•3rd and 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

Dental Hygiene
•3rd and 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

Patient Education
•Dental or hygiene students only

Dental Triage
•NO dental, hygiene, or dental assistant students

Endodontics
•3rd or 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

**All students participating on the clinic floor must have a complete HEP B vaccine series.

Pedodontics
•3rd and 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

Post Op
•2nd, 3rd, and 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

Prosthetics
•3rd and 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

Radiology
•NO dental, hygiene or dental assistant students

Restorative
•3rd and 4th year dental students
•NO hygiene or dental assistant students

Sterilization (all students if below requirements are met)
•Dental instrument knowledge
•Must be certified in infection control
